Mihira Yoga Studio

Rise with
the sun.

Classical yoga, taught with warmth, for every age and every body. Each practice begins the way the day does: slowly, and full of light.

Mihirami · HI · ra  ·  Sanskrit for the sun

Every yoga practice begins by greeting the sun. So our name tells our story on its own.

It also echoes Varahamihira, the astronomer of ancient India who spent his life reading the sky.

Our symbol is the sun held by a mala of twelve beads, one for each posture of Surya Namaskar. The first bead is saffron. That is where every practice starts.

Your guide

Meet Mitra.

Om Mitraya Namah. The first of the sun’s twelve names.

Mitra means friend in Sanskrit, and it is the first name we chant in Surya Namaskar. So it is the name of the figure you will see on our posters, our reels and this page.

Mitra has no age, no gender and no perfect body. Mitra is anyone learning to breathe, which is everyone who walks into the studio.

The people who guide your practice at Mihira are Mitras too: friends who walk the path beside you.

  • Means “friend”
  • Name 1 of 12

The asana library

More than a sun salutation.

Surya Namaskar opens the day. After it come standing poses, balances, seated stretches, gentle backbends and deep rest. Choose a pose and Mitra will show you how it looks.

Standing · Beginner

Tadasana

Mountain pose

Good for posture and calm attention.

  • Feet grounded, crown lifting.
  • Arms soft by your sides.

The eight limbs of yoga

Poses are one limb of eight.

Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras describe yoga as eight limbs: how we live, how we sit, how we breathe and where we place the mind. Mihira teaches all of them, gently.

LIMB 3 OF 8

Asana

Steady posture

Sthira sukham asanam: a pose should be steady and comfortable. Asana prepares the body to sit still and breathe well.

Our signature sequence · Surya Namaskar

One sunrise, twelve steps.

Surya Namaskar moves with the breath. Mitra flows through each step while the sun grows as you breathe in and settles as you breathe out. Breathe along, or tap a bead to stay on one step.

STEP 01 / 12 Pranamasana Prayer pose

Feet together, palms at the heart. Arrive.

Breath cues shown here are a guide. Your Mihira teacher will adjust them for you in class.

EXHALE

Before your first class

Come as you are.

I’m not flexible enough.

Flexibility is what yoga gives you, not what it asks for. Bend your knees. That is real yoga.

I’m too old to start.

Every class has a gentler way in, with props and a chair if you need one.

I don’t know what to do.

Nobody does on day one. Your Mitra will learn your name and your breath before anything else.

Questions we hear

Before you ask.

Is Mihira good for complete beginners?
Yes. Most of our students start with no experience. Classes are small, the pace is slow, and your Mitra shows easier versions of every pose.
Do I need to be flexible to start yoga?
No. Flexibility comes from practice, not before it. Bending your knees in a forward fold is real yoga.
What is the best time to practise Surya Namaskar?
Early morning, on an empty stomach, is traditional. Mihira Sunrise runs from 6:00 to 7:30 AM and is built around Surya Namaskar.
When I breathe in, should my belly go in or out?
In relaxed yoga breathing the belly gently rises as you breathe in and softly falls as you breathe out. Keep the shoulders soft.
Do you have yoga for children, seniors and pregnant women?
Yes. Every class is open to every age and level. Tell your Mitra about yourself and they will adapt the practice for you.
How do I book my first class?
Your first class is a free trial. Message us on WhatsApp at 77630 05300 or on Instagram at @mihirayoga. Tell us a little about yourself and we will suggest the right class.

See you at the first sunrise.
